Random Fact

Ok so I was eating at Maddox Chicken in Perry/ Brigham City on Saturday and out of the blue the guy sitting next to me asked "Does anyone know what the plastic thing at the end of your shoelace is called?" Me being completely obsessed with random facts knew the answer and I told him it was an Aglet. He was shocked because he didn't actually think that anyone would actually know what it was. I was like haha.

So wikipedia defines the aglet as: An aglet or aiglet is a small plastic or metal sheath typically found on the ends of shoelaces, cords and drawstrings. Aglets keep the fibers from unraveling, and their firmness and narrow profile make them easier to hold and feed through the eyelets, lugs or other lacing guides of the lace or cord.

Most aglets today are made of plasic, but in the olden days, aglets were made of glass, stone, and metal. In the 1930's aglets were made of paper and glue.

The most annoying thing in the world is when you pick off the aglet at the end of your shoe and your laces are basically ruined. Now with the world going green, I am going to tell how you can save your shoelaces if you ever pick off the aglets.

An aglet can be fashioned out of adhesive tape, wax, resin, glue, thread, heat shrink or metal tubing, or by simply knotting or melting the end of a lace or cord.

So now if you are ever at Maddox in Brigham City and someone asks "Do you know what the end of your shoelace is called?" You can reply "An Aglet"
